IKEA OPEN!

IKEA has finally opened in Dublin, about time! I didn’t brave a trip up today, it sounded crazy up there, probably great fun. I think I’ll head up in a couple of weeks, mid week early in the day, to check it out. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Myself and Alan travelled up to IKEA in Belfast to kit out my office a few months ago, it was a god send. The storage solutions are great everything has it’s place. The price of course is excellent and it was pretty easy to assemble, I only had to get help from Alan to put together a large shelving unit. Great for an office or studio.

I think IKEA furniture works best mixed in with other non IKEA pieces even antique or vintage pieces. I love the contrast of old and new. No doubt I’ll become very familiar with IKEA hopefully next summer when we come to furnishing our house. So much choice, I can’t wait!

Check out the new Irish website www.ikea.ie and don’t forget to vote for “Your Rebel”, you could win €100 IKEA vouchers.

    BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS

Looking through Martha Stewarts Wedding website I came across these beautiful and unusual bridal bouquets…

The touches of colour are beautifully vibrant against a bride’s gown. Carried through other elements of the wedding the different textures and colours can really change the look and feel of the whole day.

      JENNY PACKHAM

Since attending a wedding fair this year, with my wedding stationery, and being dazzled by a Jenny Packham bridal dress I have been a huge fan.

I could never imagine myself in a wedding dress even after myself and Alan got engaged. I have often wondered what am I going to wear on our big day. I’m just not that into wedding dresses. Don’t get me wrong i love fashion, fashion design was a huge influence growing up as my mother is a fashion designer, but the ruffles and big skirts just never appealed to me. I have admired my friends and families wedding dresses and thought they looked beautiful on their wedding day but I don’t think I would be comfortable in a wedding dress. Everyone has told me that when I start trying them on I’ll feel differently but I not sure if I’ll ever have ‘that feeling’ for a ‘traditional’ wedding dress. However after looking through the Jenny Packham 2009 collection I can definitely see myself falling for one of her gowns.

Jenny Packham’s vintage inspired gowns have an old Hollywood glamour feel. I love the luxurious fabrics and the lines of the dresses, just beautiful! You can view her full collection at www.jennypackhambride.com/jp/

        Veil Alternative

Taking inspiration from an image in my previous post “Wedding Inspiration – Art Deco” I started looking into alternatives to the traditional wedding veil. I have always said that I wouldn’t wear a veil when I get married, it’s just not me, but never thought about what alternatives there are until now. I have been looking at fascinators, hats, headbands and flowers online for some inspiration and came across Jennifer Behr, headpiece designer and celebrity favourite. Fans of Gossip Girl will be very familiar with her designs worn by Blair Waldorf, celebrity fans include Sophia Bush, Helena Christensen and Nicole Ritchie.

Jennifer Behr’s bridal collection features crystals, silks, ribbons and veiling. I think they are the perfect alternative for a bride that doesn’t want to wear a veil but also for someone who wants to wear their hair down or for a bride with a fringe, like me! And the best part is you can wear them again after your wedding, a beautiful style investment.

          WEDDING INSPIRATION – ART DECO

Be inspired by the nostalgia and sophistication of Art Deco. The crisp palette of sapphire blue, ivory and metallics is both elegant and glamorous. Opt for structural flowers like lilies and irises and let the striking and varied shapes and patterns guide the table settings.

            INSPIRING WEDDING PHOTOS

I came across these photos while looking for inspiration from iconic weddings. I think they each capture the moment perfectly, much nicer than ‘posed’ pictures…
