With a love for all things stylish, vintage, and handmade Graphic designer Pamela Farrell founded Farrell & Chase in 2008 with a vintage Adana press. After graduating collage from DIT with a Visual Communications Degree Pamela worked for five years as a Graphic Designer but had also been designing wedding stationery, invitations and announcements for friends and family. During this time she missed the craft of printmaking, which she practiced at college and decided to travel to London to complete a course in letterpress. She instantly felt inspired by the letterpress process and found a renewed love for print. She returned home with a determination to launch her own letterpress business and immediately purchased a vintage Adana press. Farrell & Chase was in business!
Letterpress is a historic printing method dating from the mid 1400’s. Today, after centuries of change and technological advances in printing methods, the processes and craft of letterpress printing have remained virtually unchanged. At Farrell & Chase all of our designs are printed on 100% cotton paper. Chosen for it’s pillowy texture and thickness (and the beautiful way it takes an impression), our cotton paper has the added benefit of being eco-friendly. The paper is hand fed into our antique Adana press and printed with tailor mixed inks, one colour at a time, embedding the artwork into the paper. Because our printing is done on an antique printing press, each piece that we print will be subtly unique. Small variations in inking, color, impression and position are to be expected. These small variations are part of what makes letterpress beautiful.
