A MOTHERS DAY TREAT IN TANKARDSTOWN

On Saturday I brought my mother for lunch in Tankardstown House in Rathkenny for an early mothers day treat and had to share…

Tankardstown House is a beautifully restored country house in Co. Meath only down the road from our site so will be no doubt be a local haunt when we move into our house. Anyway more about our lunch on Saturday, we walked into the beautiful garden in the walled courtyard where there is a pretty shop, a very elegant formal restaurant, a secret dining area for small private parties and the Bistro which was where we were headed. The interiors of the Bistro are really gorgeous.

We both ordered the special, chicken and leek pie with peas, with chips and salad. We were served a lovely basket of home made breads to nibble on while we waited for our lunch. The pie arrived served in a pot with a pastry top and lovely skinny fries in a small bucket, it was delicious! We followed with sticky toffee pudding and tea, it was my mothers day treat for my mum after all. We did notice some other guests ordering afternoon tea which was beautifully presented on a silver stand; sandwiches, sweet cakes and scones with cream and jam. We will definitely be returning to sample the afternoon tea, possibly the champagne afternoon tea, if we can come up with a reason to celebrate. I visited the Brabazon Restaurant with Alan for dinner a few weeks ago and have to say  it was delicious too, we had a really lovely night.  I’m looking forward to my next trip to Tankardstown House!
