So I went to IKEA Dublin yesterday to get kited out for my display at The Wedding & Honeymoon Show at the RDS. Although it was very busy, the restaurant was packed, you didn’t notice walking around the show room, it’s just so big. I got all I had on my list bar a table top which is due back in next week. So now i have an excuse to go back! It’s so organised and the staff were very helpful. I saw some beautiful pieces that I have earmarked for the house.
Some of my IKEA survival tips…
- Browse the website or catalogue before you go and make a list of all the pieces you are interested in and bring measurements of the spaces where you want your pieces to fit. It’s very easy to get distracted by other pretty products and forget what you came for. Also remember that all those small tempting items can add up and cost you very quickly.
- The store supplies pencils and paper, so don’t worry about bringing your own but I would recommend bringing your tape measure, although they supply paper ones they’re awkward to use and not long enough to measure allot of products.
- It might sound obvious, but wear really comfortable shoes, you’ll be doing allot of walking.
- Allow at least 2 hours for rambling around the showrooms but don’t be surprised if you spend 3-4 hours there.
- If you’ve had a long journey, charge up your batteries at the restaurant, the meatballs are delicious and it’s great value.
- If you think you’ll be a regular shopper at IKEA join the IKEA Family and build up points with each purchase and receive discount on future Family item purchases.
- Always field-test the floor model. Is it as you though it would be, is it comfortable to sit in, will it work for you etc.
- Think of how you will get everything home before you go. If you intend to purchase furniture see if you can borrow a jeep or van and trailer and save yourself delivery charges or van rental charges.
The catalogues aren’t available yet but are due in September.
Happy Shopping!
