CUSTOM STATIONERY - ASHLING & FRANCIS

I recently had the pleasure of designing and printing Ashling and Francis’ letterpress wedding stationery. Ashling and Francis are based in the UK but were married in The Village at Lyons in Ireland. After seeing some samples of our invitation booklets they decided it was the perfect option for them, giving their guest all the information they needed to attend their wedding day…

“I live in the UK and originally thought I’d source stationary here, but after many hours of research I could not find any letterpress designs I was happy with. Once I started looking further afield I came across Farrell and Chase’s website, and met Pamela at the RDS wedding fair where she showed me some of her beautiful designs. We ordered invitation booklets, RSVP cards and -more recently- thank you cards. Pamela was extremely helpful and professional, and everything we received was absolutely beautiful; the quality and finish was superb. So many of our guests commented on the stationary and we felt it set the perfect tone for our day.”

BESPOKE STATIONERY - DONNA & TIM

I was delighted to design and print Donna and Tim’s letterpress wedding stationery. Donna and Tim had a very specific idea about what style they liked and after discussing all the options and various ideas we designed a bespoke wedding suite featuring lovebirds perched on an oak tree…donna-tim_001

Donna and tim loved the effect of blind printing, printing without ink, which gives a beautifully subtle deboss in the cotton card so we blind deboseed the tree and lovebirds motif throughout. The invitation was designed as a booklet to include all the information about their wedding; accommodation, directions, travel, hair and beauty contacts etc. giving their guests all the information they could want or need.

“Pamela’s work is excellent, from the quality of the materials she uses to her designs, we’ve been delighted with what she produced for us. She listened to what we wanted and created an invitation that was just beautiful. She was a pleasure to work with and I’ve recommended her services to all our friends who are getting married.”

BILINGUAL WEDDING STATIONERY - SUZANNE & FABIEN

I was delighted to design and print Suzanne and Fabien’s bilingual destination wedding stationery earlier this year. Suzanne and Fabien were married in June in Kefalonia, Greece and as Fabien is French and Suzanne is Irish they asked me to create bilingual stationery in their chosen design, Lovebirds

suzanne-fabien_001

“I love letterpress so it was an absolute joy when Fabien and I spotted the Farrell and Chase stand at the wedding show in the RDS. The designs, the quality of the paper and the colour of the inks used on all of the Farrell and Chase range, in my opinion, just stood out. I was totally obsessed with Pamela’s work and leaving the stand that day I knew I would contact her to arrange getting my invitations produced. As my husband is French and I am Irish we wanted our invitations to be bi-lingual and after meeting with Pamela she showed me a number of ways we could make this possible. I chose the lovebird suite and as I wanted a very specific blue as part of my invitation Pamela was able to mix it perfectly and she recommended some other complementary colours to use alongside it. The process was totally painless and Pamela is a total professional. She even gave us a beautiful pen in the silver we had chosen to write the guests names on, now that was attention to detail. I received numerous compliments on my invitations once I had sent them out and was delighted that it wasn’t only me who loved them. Thank you so much Pamela for my wonderful invitations. I would highly recommend using Farrell and Chase to anyone. Now that the wedding is over I’ll have to come up with another excuse of an event to get some more!”

Congratulations Suzanne and Fabien!

DESTINATION WEDDING STATIONERY - ANRI & ANTHONY

Last year I had the pleasure of designing and letterpress printing Anri and Anthony’s destination wedding stationery for their 10.10.10 wedding. They chose our Fly Away wedding suite which we customised for their French inspired wedding in South Africa. Anri and Anthony both met and live in London but chose to host their very chic wedding in South Africa where Anri grew up.

The French inspiration came from their love of France, “it’s intoxicating.. Anthony has a beautiful little maison on the river in Limoges where we spent six months in the summer. I got to love the French countryside and its people as much as the bustling city life in Paris and it was easy to draw inspiration from this.” Using this inspiration they wanted to add that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the style of their wedding stationery and throughout their wedding…

I was delighted to design and print save the date cards, invitations, RSVP postcards, menus, seating tags, gift boxes and thank you cards all inspired by vintage luggage tags, guide books and travel stamps.

OUR ART NOUVEAU WEDDING INVITATIONS

Well they’ve been a while coming, the hardest customer to please is yourself, but myself and Alan finally sent out our wedding invitations. I designed the bespoke wedding stationery suite to set the tone for our Rome wedding this summer. Inspired by the romance and elegance of 1900’s to 19020’s style the Art Nouveau design features curved forms flowing from a stylised butterfly…

artnouveau_01

We chose to send our guests a flat invitation, a wedding booklet and and RSVP card. We wanted to use a muted subtle colour palette to create a romantic vintage feel and printed our stationery with a pewter ink and also blind embossed (printed with no ink). I selected an organic curvaceous striking font for our names which was contrasted with a sans serif minimal font.

I went searching for a stamp that would compliment our stationery suite, the An Post Wedding Stamp or 2010 just didn’t suit at all, so I looked through their website and came across their Stamp Issues section. As soon as I saw the Czeslaw Slania I knew it was perfect. The stamp depicts a scene from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, how fitting, and the colours of the etching were perfect!

We wanted to provide our guests with all the information they would need to book their flights, accommodation and to plan their trip to Rome. We included in the wedding booklet a map of Rome, information about our favourite sights, restaurants, cafes and bars. We wanted to share our love for Rome with our guests giving them a sense of why we chose Rome as our wedding destination.

It really is true once you’ve sent out your wedding invitations, everything does become very real, and very exciting!

We’ve had lots of great feedback from our guests complementing our wedding invitations, I can truly say that they have set the perfect first impression for our wedding.

TWO NEW PRESSES!

We recently purchased two new, or very old, letterpresses. I have been keeping an eye out for a new letterpress for quite a while now, they are very hard to come by, so when I saw an ad for an Arab hand fed platen press I was very excited, to top it off the photographer selling the press was also including a No.1 Croperette hand fed platen press! We think the Cropper is an 1888 press and the Arab is an 1894 press.

Deal done next step drive to London to collect the presses, easier said than done. The Arab weighs approx. 1400lbs and the Croperette weighs approx. 400lbs. That’s over a tonne combined! Luckily a friend lent us their van and we got the ferry over to Holyhead where we arrived a 6.00am, we drove through the day to London, six hours later we arrived in London and the fun really began…

collectingnewpresses

It took Alan with the help of the seller, and a little help from me, 5 hours to dismantle the two presses and load them into the van, a mammoth task. Unfortunately I wasn’t much help, I literally couldn’t lift most of the parts they were so heavy.

We then drove back to Holyhead through driving rain, missing our ferry, luckily it was only a matter of paying another £10 to transfer our booking to the next sailing, which we just made. 5.30am and we arrived back in Dublin with an hour and a half drive ahead of us back to Kells. We made it back safe and sound, no major hiccups and went straight to bed, completely exhausted from our 30 hour round trip! We did eventually come out of hibernation on Sunday evening and Alan called in the cavalry to help unload the van.

Back to work on Monday morning, I was surrounded by parts and couldn’t wait to get the presses up and running.

On Monday night the studio was a buzz of activity, it took four men as many hours to assemble the two presses and voila they were ready for printing, or so I thought. The presses needed to settle so I spent the next few days oiling them and cleaning them and finally on Monday I began my first print run on our new Cropper press. After a few tweaks and adjustments and one call out from my personal mechanic the press was a go. It runs like a dream and last night I finished the first print run of letterpress wedding stationery on it.

croperette

So what about the Arab, well it will take a little longer to get up and running but I’ll keep you posted, watch this space.

arab

I have to say a huge thank you to Alan for all his help, he was a gem, and of course to Tommy for lending us the van and to Ronan, David and Paul for all their help putting the presses back together.
