REAL WEDDINGS - ELIZABETH & BRIAN

I was delighted to design and print Elizabeth and Brian’s destination wedding stationery. Elizabeth and Brian are getting married next September in the beautiful town of Santa Maria di Castellabate in Italy. They wanted to supply their guests with information about the destination, travel and accommodation details and their wedding weekend itinerary…

realwedding_elizbrian01On meeting with them and discussing different options we decide to create a wedding booklet together with a detailed RSVP card. They loved our Chantilly Wedding Suite which we customised using antique gold and sapphire blue ink colours to reflect the sandy beaches and deep blue sea of the south of Italy. We also included two lovebirds throughout the suite, a charming and whimsical detail.

realwedding_elizbrian02The front cover of the booklet is the formal wedding invitation which is letterpress printed on luxurious 100% cotton paper and the inner pages are laser printed on matching laid paper. We decided to stitch bind the booklets with cotton thread to continue the use of quality materials throughout.

The RSVP card allows guests to reply to a pre wedding get together, the wedding and a beach bbq the day after the wedding. The envelopes are a beautiful antique gold colour complimenting the invitations. The RSVP envelopes are letterpress printed with the return address and the invitation envelopes are digitally printed with guests names and addresses.

Wedding booklets were a great solution for Elizabeth and Brian’s destination wedding. Their guests can easily access all the information they need and also bring the booklets with them for reference when they are enjoying their trip to Italy.

“We are getting married in Italy in September and wanted wedding invites to depict our wedding abroad. We used Farrell & Chase for our wedding invites and RSVP cards. Pamela was great to work with and no request was too big for her. The quality and style of the invites were excellent and our guests loved them. Thank you Pamela.” Elizabeth & Brian

We can customise any of our designs for destination weddings, creating wedding invitation booklets or separate wedding information booklets.

WHAT IS LETTERPRESS?

I am asked by clients and fellow designers so often to explain the letterpress printing process that I decided why not create a blog post, so here goes…

Letterpress is a very old printing method which has seen a huge revival in the US and UK in recent years, fine artists and designers like myself  have embraced this old technique to create unique, luxuriously tactile stationery. At Farrell & Chase we are introducing this beautiful printing technique to a new generation in Ireland. When it comes to stationery, there’s simply nothing that compares to the unique, luxurious quality of letterpress.

Letterpress is a historic printing method dating from the mid 1400’s. Today, after centuries of change and technological advances in printing methods, the processes and craft of letterpress printing have remained virtually unchanged…

letterpress

Each Farrell & Chase letterpress stationery cards begin with a spark of creativity. Once complete the design is then made into printing plates, one for each colour. The printing plate is the essence of the letterpress. A letterpress plate has a raised surface that presses into the paper, leaving behind a slight indentation. The plate is mounted onto the platen of the printing press, next we ink the press with our water-soluble rubber-based inks which come in a rainbow of colours.

We print all of our designs on 100% cotton paper. Chosen for it’s pillowy texture and thickness, our cotton paper has the added benefit of being eco-friendly. We hand feed the luxurious cotton paper through our vintage Adana press impressing the artwork into the soft cotton paper, one colour at a time. The result, stationery of incredible tactile beauty.

Finally, we inspect and count each piece before packaging in brown paper tied up with string ready for delivery or collection. Your stationery is a unique work of art, the culmination of hours of craft and creativity.

Because our printing is done on an antique printing press, each piece that we print will be subtly unique. Small variations in inking, color, impression and position are to be expected. These small variations are part of what makes letterpress beautiful.
